Papago Golf Club is a public 18-hole, par 72 championship golf course located in Phoenix. The course opened in 1963, and was designed by William Francis Bell. The course underwent renovations and modifications in 1977 by Jack Snyder as well as a $5.8 million renovation most recently in 2008 by Billy Fuller with larger greens, a lengthened course and bunkers remodelled more like the original design and moved to accomodate modern yardage play. The course is owned by the city of Phoenix and in 2014, Arizona State University signed a 30-year deal to manage Papago as well as transition ASU's golf program from the ASU Karsten course over to Papago. In preparation for ASU Golf's move over to Papago, The Thunderbirds Golf Complex finished construction in 2018. The 12-acre ASU team complex includes a 7000 sq ft air conditioned practice facility and 2400 sq ft of exterior covered space designed by Douglas Fredrickson Architects, as well as a 4-acre short game practice area designed by Phil Mickelson consisting of 5 practice greens, 4 practice bunkers, and a 3-acre fairway / rough area designed to practice every possible golf shot. After the construction of the facility, ASU Golf officially transitioned to Papago in 2018. Papago GC is managed by Troon Golf.
